My Top 5 Donuts for the Range

A nice little snack in the shape of a perfectly round and delicious ball of dough has always been my choice of food for the range.  I mean, who doesn’t love a good, scrumptious, fresh, and warm doughnut early in the morning to start off the day alongside your coffee?  Also, since I enjoy hitting the range early in the morning when the weather is cool and most people are either asleep or at work, donut shops are usually the only thing that’s open….and breakfast burritos (which are also very awesome).

Anyways, I like good looking donuts; they just seem to taste better.  And I also commend the creativity that shops put into their flavors and aesthetics.  Forewarning…I have the biggest sweet tooth that an adult could probably have.  So, here are my top 5 picks of donuts for the range:

Chocolate Banana Fritter (Atlanta, GA)

Chocolate Banana Fritter (Atlanta, GA)

5. “Chocolate Banana” Fritter from Sublime Doughnuts (Atlanta, GA)

This doughnut-technically fritter-reminds me of some homemade banana pudding with chocolate on top.  Okay, it’s a little different.  But trust me…you won’t be disappointed.  There’s something about that pudding-like center that just makes it feel like dessert more than breakfast.  If you’re in “The A”, go and grab you one and tell me you didn’t love it!

Vietnamese Iced Coffee Donut (New Orleans, LA)

4. “Vietnamese Iced Coffee: Donut from District: Donuts. Sliders. Brew. (New Orleans, LA)

The character that they put in these donuts reflect that of the culture of New Orleans. Everything on this donut is made from scratch each morning! The Vietnamese Coffee Donut is a smooth type of sweet, just like the actual coffee.  “It’s whats on the inside that counts!” …the filling will definitely not let you down.  Also, during Mardi Gras season, this awesome little place has a king cake donut!!…yes, plastic baby comes with!

Raspberry Crumble Cake Donut (Chicago, IL)

3. “Raspberry Crumble” Cake Donut from The Doughnut Vault (Chicago, IL)

I’m not always a fan of cake donuts; they’re sometimes a little too dry for my liking.  But the one at Doughnut Vault just works.  How? I’m not sure.  But I love it.  To top it off, Doughnut Vault has $1 coffee-and it’s not shitty coffee either.  However, beware of the long ass lines around the corner on certain days.  Other favorites from here are the birthday cake doughnut and strawberry jelly-filled.  Can you say, “Yum”??

S'More Donut (Los Angeles, CA)

S'More Donut (Los Angeles, CA)

2. “S’More” Donut from DK’s Donuts (Los Angeles, CA)

Talk about toasted marshmallows over an open fire, chocolate melting on top of a good old fashion graham cracker perfectly placed on a DONUT. ….for breakfast. Yes, please.  DK has been known for their creative nuts of dough.  But this and their strawberry and cream doughnut have to be my ultimate favorites.  Not to mention, they do doughnut ice cream sandwiches! But that’s just not good range food. Unless someone has a suggestion of how I can properly eat an ice cream sandwich on the range! Anyone?

Zoo Ropa Donut (Dallas, TX)

Zoo Ropa Donut (Dallas, TX)

1. “Zoo Ropa” Donut from Hypnotic Donuts (Dallas, TX)

This is what childhood joys were made of.  The happiness that is placed onto this donut is ridiculous.  The little pink and white iced animal crackers?! The marshmallows! All the colorful sprinkles.  You can’t not look at this donut and smile.  And hey…like they say… “You are what you eat”.  And I choose to be bright, happy, and childish…I mean, child-like.

So many doughnuts out there to explore in so many different cities.  Let me know what your favorite doughnut is below and why! I’m definitely open to trying them all, if given the chance.  What are your favorite snacks to bring to range, if you bring snacks to the range?
